After being traded by the Mets three seasons ago, R.A. Dickey has a chance to start against his former team in the World Series. Dickey would love to see a Blue Jays and Mets series happen, and he thinks it would be great if he can go up against Noah Syndergaard.
“I think it would make for a great story, for sure. What a script that would be if I could face Syndergaard in [World Series] Game 7,’’ (George A. King III, NY Post)
In three years with the Mets, Dickey was outstanding after being picked up on a minor league contract by former GM Omar Minaya. Dickey posted a 2.95 ERA during his tenure in New York, and finished it on a high note with a dominating campaign in 2012 that won him the Cy Young.
While it was disappointing to see him leave, Sandy Alderson’s trade that sent him to Toronto has been tremendous for the Mets. Syndergaard and Travis d’Arnaud have emerged into key players, and they both have bright futures with the team.
Syndergaard posted a 3.24 ERA in 24 starts this year with 166 strikeouts in 150 innings. Meanwhile, d’Arnaud batted .265 with 12 homeruns and 41RBI in 67 games.
“When I was a Met, I loved being a Met,’’ said Dickey, who said he knows the Mets have been good but hasn’t closely followed what Syndergaard and d’Arnaud have been doing. “I’m hoping that we play those guys in the World Series. It certainly would make for a great narrative.’’
