Orlando Hernandez will take the mound tonight against the Cardinals after a day off yesterday. El Duque had a very impressive performance in his final spring training tune-up and I would suspect that he is up for the task. I’m still all tingly from crashing the Card’s flag raising party on Sunday. 😉

When I looked at the box scores last night I couldn’t help smiling when I saw that the Phillies got beat in their home opener by the Atlanta Braves. I don’t think I could ever remember a Braves victory that actually didn’t make me cringe. I know that some of you will never forgive me for getting any satisfaction over a Braves victory, but something has really come over me in the last few months and I am beginning to hate the Phillies more than the Braves. Maybe it’s just a passing phase.

Willie Randolph still couldn’t stop raving about the Mets defense in game one, especially the throw Carlos Beltran made to nail the runner trying to score at the plate. Even Paul LoDuca couldn’t stop talking about it. "I think maybe they thought he was going to throw it into second base," Paul Lo Duca said, "but Carlos came up firing and he threw a bullet to home. There’s not many people who can do that, especially from center field."  I said it before, and I’ll say it again, Carlos Beltran is the most complete player ever to wear a Mets uniform. He does it all, dazzling defense, a shotgun for an arm, excellent speed, and 40+ home run power.

As if Opening Day wasn’t special enough, yesterday I came home to a nice surprise, as my gf gave me a gift bag full of Mets goodies which included Mets pillow cases, Mets drinking glasses, and a copy of the book "The Bad Guys Won," which I have been dying to read. They say that a way to a man’s heart is with food, but not with me, it’s Mets all the way! Those pillow cases will look great with the Mets blanket she got me for my birthday. 🙂
