The New York Mets had themselves an even keeled week, splitting series’ with both the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Steven Matz showed his pitching prowess off while Jeff McNeil‘s bat was electric, helping to lead the pitching staff and offense over the past week.

Pitcher of the Week – Steven Matz

It was not a great week for the rotation but Matz outshined others with a strong performance against division rival, Atlanta, picking up his first win of the season.

Matz’s stat line in this game was as follows:

1-0, 6 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 8 K, BB, .203 AVG, 1.04 WHIP.

The southpaw has had a nice start to his season, not allowing more than two runs in any of his starts and has now struck out eight in two consecutive performances.

This is a big season for Matz as he looks to stay healthy and prove his stability within a rotation that needs him greatly.

Hitter of the Week – Jeff McNeil

The Mets’ super utility-man has continued to show why he is the real deal to the baseball world as he just continues to hit.

McNeil’s state line over this past week:

.400 AVG, 30 AB, 12 H, 2 2B, 6 RBI, 2 BB, K

McNeil is proving that he can be a mainstay in this lineup with the ability to be a fantastic contact hitter who can get this offense going and keep the chain moving every time he steps up to the plate.
