The New York Mets had an even keeled week, winning a series against the Philadelphia Phillies while dropping a series to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Steven Matz and Pete Alonso continue to be the early centerpieces of both the rotation and offense in the early goings of 2019 with strong weeks.

Pitcher of the Week – Steven Matz

Take away that one rough start in Philadelphia and Matz has been nothing short of magnificent this season as he put in two more strong performances over the past week.

Matz’s two outings produced the following stats:

2-0, 13 IP, 3 ER, 8 H, 2 BB, 10 K, .222 AVG, 1.16 WHIP

The southpaw finds himself to be outshining some of the bigger names in the starting rotation as he looks to finally break out in what is a pivotal season for himself.

Hitter of the Week – Pete Alonso

What can’t this guy do? He may very well be one of the most exciting offensive players this team has had in a long time and he just continued to mash.

Alonso’s stats over the past week:

.240/.345/.480, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 3 BB, 9 K

The polar bear has been a force to be reckoned with in 2019, showing his ability to hit major league pitching and not just being a minor league wonder.
