The Mets (2–1) earned a 4–3 win over the Blue Jays (1–2) on Monday afternoon at TD Ballpark in Dunedin, FL, taking home back-to-back triumphs over AL East opponents.
Clay Holmes got the start for New York and allowed a two-run homer to Kazuma Okamoto in the second inning to give Toronto an early 2–0 lead. Holmes settled in from there, tossing 3 2/3 innings with three strikeouts and two walks before turning it over to the bullpen.

Hoss Brewer recorded the final out of the fourth via strikeout, and Tobias Myers followed with 2 1/3 scoreless innings, adding three strikeouts of his own. Gregori Louis closed out the seventh by inducing a key double play, and Ryan Lambert worked a clean eighth, allowing one hit while striking out three. Lambert tallied the top-five hardest pitches thrown for the day, maxing out at 99 mph (although he’s hit around 102 mph in the past).
Trey McGough entered in the ninth and ran into trouble early, issuing a walk before surrendering a double and an RBI single to bring Toronto within a run. He responded with a strikeout and induced a game-ending double play to secure the victory.
AT THE PLATE
The Mets pulled even in the third. Jackson Cluff singled and stole second before Nick Morabito delivered an RBI single. MJ Melendez followed with an RBI double to tie it up, 2–2.
In the sixth, New York took the lead. Ronny Mauricio led off with a double, and Jared Young walked to put two on. Later in the inning, Vidal Bruján swiped second, and a throwing error by the catcher allowed Jacob Reimer to score, giving the Mets a 3–2 edge.
Cristian Pache knocked a solo homer in the seventh to extend the lead 4-2.

The Mets’ starter for tomorrow is still TBD.
Jason Alexander is expected to take the mound for the Astros. Last season, through 18 games, he posted a 4.77 ERA through 77 1/3 innings pitched, with 65 strikeouts and a 1.37 WHIP.
