Ed Delany, MMO

Over the last couple days, Mets prospects have made their way to Port St. Lucie for spring training. (The MLB players–and some 40-man guys like Ronny Mauricio and Mark Vientos–aren’t allowed just yet.) MMO’s Ed Delany has been there to capture the sights of the first springs days for the minor leaguers.

Top prospect Brett Baty was among the players to get a full workout in on Sunday, taking reps at third base, where he hopes to stay long-term. He’ll also likely get reps in the corner outfield spots this spring as the team tries to test his multi-positionality.

Alex Ramirez, the team’s top outfield prospect, also arrived at camp this weekend. He recently made his way onto Keith Law’s top 100 prospects in baseball list due to his upside at the plate and his plus-defense in center field.

Carlos Rincon, Shervyen Newton and Hayden Senger all took hacks at camp today, too. Rincon and Senger all will likely get reps during major-league spring games, especially at the start of spring, before starting the season in Triple-A.

Baseball lifer Phil Regan also showed up at camp Sunday. The 84-year-old coached in the Dominican Winter League as recently as 2020 after ending the 2019 season as pitching coach for the Mets. (He “retired” after the season, but it’s nice to see him still making rounds. He’s been in baseball longer than the Mets franchise itself.)

With the MLB collective bargaining agreement negotiations likely dragging on to the end of the month, Mets prospects will get all the shine in Port St. Lucie until major-league players can take part in camp.

Keep it glued on Metsmerized and Mets Minors for updates on the young bucks throughout the spring!
