Game Notes

Barely a day after learning of the torn ligament in Matt Harvey‘s elbow, the Mets made a waiver deal that will also significantly impact the rest of 2013, trading outfielder Marlon Byrd, catcher John Buck and cash to the Pirates for Minor League infielder Dilson Herrera and a player to be named later.

The Mets are involved in multiple trade talks, and there is a high degree of probability at least one deal will be consummated in the next 24 to 48 hours, a source told ESPN New York. Trade candidates include Marlon ByrdJohn Buck and Pedro Feliciano as well as players who remain under the team’s control beyond this season. Byrd has been claimed, which means the Mets can only deal him to that undisclosed team, which is believed to be in the National League.

Injured Mets third baseman David Wright (strained right hamstring) will head to Port St. Lucie, Fla., on Thursday to ramp up baseball activities. Mets manager Terry Collins recently said he expected Wright would leave by Tuesday or Wednesday, but the third baseman still has a few more things to do before departing.

Mets closer Bobby Parnell (neck) saw the doctor on Monday and is progressing, but he’s yet to decide whether he wants to undergo surgery to repair the herniated disc in his neck. Parnell said he has scattered doctor appointments within the next two weeks, and hopes to decide in that time span about undergoing surgery. The closer said the worry with not having surgery is the disc popping out again, but he also acknowledged that he’d like to avoid an operation.

Double-A left-hander Chase Huchingson has been suspended for 50 games without pay for a second violation involving a drug of abuse, MLB announced. Huchingson, 24, was 3-2 with a 1.61 ERA in 45 relief appearances with Binghamton this season.
