The Philadelphia Phillies are expected to hire Gabe Kapler to be their next manager according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports. While it’s not yet official, Heyman notes that an announcement could be made as early as Monday.

Kapler has had experience as a MLB player, minor league manager, FOX Sports 1 analyst, and most recently a director of player development with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He will bring a background in sabermetrics with him which fits in well with the Phillies who recently filled their front office with those who are fluent in analytics.

Kapler was close to becoming a major league manager two years ago with the Dodgers, but was just beat out by Dave Roberts. This time around it looks like he will win a managerial job, beating out candidates like John Farrell and Phillies’ Triple-A manager Dusty Wathan.

If hired, Kapler replaces Pete Mackanin who was let go from his position at the end of the season after going 172-237 since taking over in June of 2015.
