While the Mets remained a strong contender for veteran righty David Robertson, ESPN‘s Jeff Passan reports that he will be headed to the division rival Philadelphia Phillies. Ben Brown, the No. 26 prospect in the Phillies system is headed to Chicago in return.

The Mets were linked to Robertson, mostly in packages with Willson Contreras, these past few weeks, but ultimately must have felt that the price was too high. The 37-year-old is having a solid 2022 season thus far, maintaining a 2.23 ERA, while collecting 14 saves for the Cubs. He is also known for being highly effective against both right- and left-handed hitters.

With Robertson headed to Philadelphia, the Mets’ number of bullpen targets continues to shrink as we near the deadline. Robertson’s teammate Mychal Givens, along with a number of lefties such as Andrew Chafin and Joe Mantiply could be on the Mets radar.

Andy Martino also reported that the Mets are still looking to acquire more bullpen arms, so with one of the main targets off the board, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a move made very soon.
