Slugging first base prospect Peter Alonso is quickly opening eyes and two home runs last night for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies is only going to increase that.

Alonso went 2 for 4 with two solo homers in the Rumble Ponies 5-1 win over the Erie SeaWolves.

During his first eight games in Double-A, Alonso is slashing .333/.353/.667 with three doubles, triple and two home runs.

He now has 26 doubles and 18 home runs on the season in only 341 at-bats between Binghamton and the St. Lucie Mets. Alonso is slashing .290/.361/.531 for the year.

The Mets second round pick from 2016 is pushing his way to the major leagues in a hurry.

Other Mets Minors Notes

Right-handed pitching prospect Jordan Humphreys had Tommy John surgery earlier this week. He was having a breakout season in 2017 with 1.79 ERA and 0.87 WHIP in 80.2 innings.

Rumble Ponies knuckleballer Mickey Jannis has been very good over his last five games; 29 IP, 24 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 24 K.

Luis Guillorme currently has the second most walks in the Eastern League with 70 and has a career-high 20 doubles on the season.

2017 second round pick Mark Vientos had gone 4 for 13 with a walk and two doubles since his promotion to the Kingsport Mets. Did I mention he’s already 17-years-old.

P.J. Conlon is being used out of the Binghamton bullpen right now and hasn’t allowed an earned run in five relief appearances this year.

The Rumble Ponies have already clinched a playoff spot and will face the Trenton Thunder in the first round.
