After smashing the Mets’ rookie homerun record yesterday with his 27th bomb, Pete Alonso has added another accomplishment to his resume. Alonso was awarded NL Player of the Week Award for his red-hot performance during the past seven days.

With four homeruns and an absurd .417/.548/.1.042 triple slash line, Alonso showed no mercy and annihilated both the Braves and Cubs’ pitching staffs. The torrid stretch increases his overall slash line to .276/.366/.642.

Alonso leads all MLB rookies with 27 homeruns, 61 RBI, and 46 extra base hits. His .366 OBP and .642 slugging percentage also rank first among rookies.

In addition to passing Darryl Strawberry‘s rookie homerun record, Alonso is on pace to break the Mets’ all-time single-season  homerun record of 41 set by Carlos Beltran (2006) and Todd Hundley

Having homered in three of the past four games, Alonso is locked and doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon. He leads the Mets with a 3.2 WAR, and he is only two homeruns shy of Christian Yelich for the MLB lead.

Alonso will look to keep his incredible rookie campaign going tonight as the Mets take on the Phillies
