The Mets announced on Friday afternoon they’ve placed first baseman Pete Alonso on the 10-day injured list and recalled infielder Luis Guillorme from Triple-A Syracuse. Alonso was hit by a 97 mph fastball from Braves’ starter Charlie Morton on Wednesday and left the game immediately. The Mets said initially that it was a contusion and Alonso was day-to-day. Then on Thursday, the Mets sent Alonso to New York for further testing. After undergoing additional imaging, Pete has been diagnosed with a bone bruise and a sprain of his left wrist.

Alonso, 28, is leading Major League Baseball with 22 home runs this season and is first in the National League with 49 RBIs. Alonso is hitting .231/.326/.546 on the season in 62 games for the Mets.

Mark Vientos played first base in Alonso’s absence on Thursday night, and Mark Canha has three starts there this season. Daniel Vogelbach has 154 career games at first, but none since coming over from the Pirates in a trade last year.

Guillorme, 28, was sent to Triple-A Syracuse last month after struggling to the tune of a .590 OPS to begin the season in the big leagues. In Guillorme’s first significant action in Triple-A since 2019, the defensive whiz was hitting .241/.397/.352 with three doubles and one home run in 16 games.

The Mets also recalled left-handed reliever Zach Muckenhirn from Triple-A and designated right-hander Stephen Nogosek for assignment. Lastly, catcher Tomás Nido has cleared waivers and was sent outright to Triple-A.
