Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso has hired BorasCorp to represent the big-time slugger. BorasCorp is, of course, led by the most significant agent in baseball, Scott Boras.

Alonso, 28, will be a free agent after the 2024 season, and there have been rumors swirling around Pete going back to the most recent trade deadline. The Mets reportedly listened to offers on Alonso, with both the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs showing interest. And there have been multiple reports in recent days that the Cubs still have strong interest in acquiring the All-Star slugger.

New Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said during his introductory press conference that he expected Alonso to be their Opening Day first baseman.

The 28-year-old finished the 2023 season with 46 home runs, 118 runs batted in, a .217 batting average and a .821 OPS in 658 plate appearances. Alonso is now a three-time All-Star and has played at least 152 games in every season of his career, excluding the 60-game season in 2020. He’s already tied for fourth all-time on the Mets’ home run list, and he’ll end up as the team’s most prolific power hitter if he stays with them beyond 2024.

The Mets and Boras have come together in recent years to agree on significant deals for Max Scherzer, Brandon Nimmo, and Carlos Correa before his ankle issues came into play. Mets owner Steve Cohen is known to have reached out to Boras directly on multiple occasions. Another critical thing to remember is that Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo hired Scott Boras in January of 2022 and signed an eight-year deal to stay in the organization in December of 2022.
