Pete Alonso dominated at the plate on Sunday night in the Mets’ 8-4 win over the San Diego Padres.

Alonso was 2-for-3 with a home run, double, two runs scored, four RBIs and a walk. It is the 12th time in his career that he has recorded a four-RBI game. He also became the 14th different Met to collect at least 12 four plus RBI game in Mets’ history.

With the Mets down 1-0 in the sixth, Alonso got the Mets’ offensive power kickstarted and began the momentum they never let up on. Ahead 2-1 in the pitch count, he hit a three-run home run to center field that sored Starling Marte and Francisco Lindor to put the Mets on top 3-1.

Alonso then came back up in the seventh and quickly hit an RBI double on the first pitch he saw that once again scored Marte. Lindor advanced to third on the play.

The Mets went on to defeat the Padres 8-4 on 12 hits. Per New York Mets Stats, 17 of Alonso’s hits this season have put the Mets in the lead, which is the most in the National League.

Alonso is continuing to look locked in at the plate, picking up right where he left off in the first half of the season. The 27-year old is batting .274/.349/.534, with a .883 OPS. He has 17 doubles and 25 home runs so far in 2022. He has scored 53 runs and driven in 82 RBIs. His 82 RBIs lead thee major league. Aaron Judge of the Yankees sits behind him with 81.

Even more impressive is over his last seven games, Alonso is hitting .346, with a .419 OBP and a .692 SLG. He has 10 RBIs and two home runs through his last seven games played.

Alonso’s sixth inning home run was his 131st career home run. With 131, he is one home run away from tying Michael Conforto on the Mets’ All-time home runs list. Alonso also has the third-most home runs at Citi Field with 56 home runs in the Mets’ current home ballpark.
