Shortly after it was announced that Edwin Díaz was placed on the 15-day injured list, Pete Alonso exited Wednesday’s game with a hand injury.

In the bottom of the first inning, James Paxton threw a fastball that ran in on Alonso and made direct contact with his hand. He left the game almost immediately. It is unclear what the specifics of the injury are, as the team is waiting for further evaluation after an X-ray. But it continues a nightmare stretch for the Mets.
Alonso is entering a massive free agent period at the conclusion of this season, with still no clear direction on his future. In the first two months of the season, Alonso is slashing .231/.308/.453/.761 and has homered 12 times.
