Baseball Prospectus has released their PECOTA projections for the 2021 season. After an extremely busy first offseason in the Steve Cohen era, they have the New York Mets finishing atop the National League East with a 95-65 record.

The Mets finished the 2020 pandemic shortened season with a 26-34 record, which was tied with the Washington Nationals at the bottom of the barrel in the NL East.

This offseason Sandy Alderson and company not only added some much needed depth to the roster, but also upgraded some key positions, adding catcher James McCann, reliever Trevor May, and of course righty Carlos Carrasco and superstar shortstop Francisco Lindor in the blockbuster deal.

Here’s how they have the rest of the NL East shaking out:

  • New York Mets 95-65
  • Washington Nationals 85-77
  • Philadelphia Phillies 83-79
  • Atlanta Braves 82-79
  • Miami Marlins 68-93

PECOTA not only projects Luis Rojas‘ group to finish as NL East champs, but also as the third-best team in the National League, behind only the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres.

As for the rest of the National League, PECOTA projects the Milwaukee Brewers to take home the lowly NL Central with just 88 wins, and the Dodgers to beat out the Padres in the NL West with 102 wins to San Diego’s 95 win.

In the American League, despite a busy offseason from the Toronto Blue Jays (84-77), they have the New York Yankees (97-64) taking their place back atop the AL East, the Minnesota Twins (90-71) just squeaking past Cleveland (85-76), and the Houston Astros (93-69) beating out the Los Angeles Angels (86-75).

How many wins do you think the Mets will have in 2021?
