Yahoo Sports’ Jeff Passan is reporting that CAA Agent and Co-Head of their Baseball Representation Division Brodie Van Wagenen is the significant favorite for the Mets’ general manager job. Passan also said the the job is Van Wagenen’s, if he wants it.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com is reporting that Van Wagenen is expected to take the Mets front office job, though the team is likely giving him time to inform his clients and tie up any other business at CAA.

Furthermore, Passan reported that negotiations and discussions are continuing, but the sense is that he will be the next head of baseball operations for the Mets.

It is important to note that Passan included the phrase “if he wants it”, due to the fact that Van Wagenen would take a sizable pay cut to leave his agency to take the Mets vacancy.

Van Wagenen, 44, is in the final two for consideration along with the Rays’ Chaim Bloom, after Doug Melvin was eliminated from consideration on Thursday afternoon.

Even with Van Wagenen being a heavy favorite, Andy Martino of SNY reported that Chaim Bloom is not out of the running, and is still alive in the process of naming a new general manager.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic shed light into the topic earlier, in which he said “For the Mets, who for too long have failed to fully embrace modern baseball thinking, he (Bloom) would be almost ideal. I’m not getting the sense the Mets will hire Bloom, though. The sense I am getting is they will choose Brodie Van Wagenen.”

Rosenthal’s report lines up with and confirms the reporting of Passan and Martino.
