Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the San Francisco Giants are signing left-handed starting pitcher Carlos Rodón. The deal is for two years, $44 million with an opt-out after the first season.

Rodón, 29, surpisingly did not receive a qualifying offer from the White Sox following a strong 2021 season.

Rodón is coming off a career year with the Chicago White Sox in which the lefty made the All-Star team. The left-hander went 13-5 with a career best 2.37 ERA while striking out 185 batters in 132 2/3 inning pitched, while posting the best WHIP of his career at 0.957, and his best FIP at 2.65. Oh, and he also finished fifth in the American League Cy Young award voting.

The Giants had previously signed starters Alex Wood, Anthony DeSclafani, and Alex Cobb before the lockout.

The Mets had show interest in Rodón before the lockout, and will continue their search for a starting pitcher. They’ve also shown interest in fellow lefty Yusei Kikuchi.
