bobby parnellIn what I can only describe as disappointing, Terry Collins told reporters that Bobby Parnell is not close to returning — and in fact, is not even close to throwing a baseball right now. Although the Mets have not announced anything officially, it is all but confirmed that Parnell will be missing the remainder of the season. He has not pitched since July 30th.

Parnell received an epidural shot to alleviate his neck pain earlier in August, but it seems to have been ineffective overall. He’s in line for a second shot soon, and then they will re-visit the idea of surgery. The NYP had previously reported he’s in line for an MRI in two weeks to help determine the best course of action. In 49 appearances for the Mets this season, Parnell earned 22 saves with a 2.12 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 50.0 innings.

Ain’t no rest for the wicked…or the Jinxed Mets in this case.
