A big Tip-Off thanks to Joe DeCaro and the MMO readers who submitted Met Themed Holiday Songs that we performed on Friday morning’s Tip-Off hour. The submissions were few but the creativity and optimism was brimming. The Dawg and I had a lot of fun, likely at our listener’s expense, with the show.

The Met themed remakes of holiday tunes points to a newly found sense of optimism amongst Met fans. As promised we said we’d send along the lyrics of the tunes we performed. We tried to stay true to the lyrics of the author’s but did sometimes make small edits to match the karaoke music we used in the background.

Joe D., who spun rock music lyrics many moons ago, submitted his version of Let It Snow. A special thanks to Joe for his offer to provide MetsMerized T-Shirts to the fans who submitted songs.

Go Mets Go

Oh the roster may look a bit frightful,
But the core is so delightful.
And with Granderson joining the show.
Go Mets Go, Go Mets Go, Go Mets Go.

That Lagares is really something.
And d’Arnaud will come a thumping,
He’ll blast a few shots you know.
Go Mets Go, Go Mets Go, Go Mets Go.

When we finally win the East,
You can bet we’ll be led by Jon Niese.
And when Syndergaard gets the call.
I am sure we’ll be playing this Fall.

Oh there’ lots of good things now happenin’
Like a very big season for the Captain,
And with Wheeler and Harvey in tow,
Go Mets Go, Go Mets Go, Go Mets Go.

The Amazins will steal the show.
Go Mets Go, Go Mets Go, Go Mets Go.

Bob Fuchs, from Rye, New York has been a Met fan since that inaugural Met season in 1962. Bob was a Brooklyn fan until the Dodger’s moved to the other side of the continent. When the National League brought another team to town, Bob was all in for the Metropolitans. Bob says pulling for the Dodgers when ‘dem Bums reached the World Series again and again, only to fall to the hated Yankees in the fall classic steeled him for the years that followed pulling for those “Lovable Losers” the early Mets. The way Bob sees it losing builds character and after all these years as a Met fan Bob has the character of Hercules. Like Joe D, Bob’s song went to the tune of Let It Snow.

Let It Snow

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But baseball’s so delightful
And since there’s still months to go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

The flakes show no sign of stopping
So Sandy, keep right on shopping
The players are there I know,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

When I finally say good night
I’ll expect you’ll be out in that storm
But if your wallet’s really that tight
I’ll keep 2015 warm.

My fire ain’t never dying
‘Cause my GM’s out there buying
And as long he loves me so
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

Andrew Hochhauser became a Met fan to honor his Grandfather. Andrew’s Granddad was a great baseball fan and a true and blue Met fan. When Andrew was only in kindergarten he lost his Grandfather and, even though he knew next to nothing about baseball, decided to follow his Grandfather and root of the Mets. By the fifth grade Andrew was watching every game and has stuck with his team through thick and thing. Andrew likes the fact that the Mets have an uncanny ability to stay young and always symbolize hope. Andrew lives on Long Island in Suffolk County and his Met themed song goes to the melody of Jingle Bells.

Wilpons Spend

Signing for one year,
With a paycheck that will do,
Over to the East he goes,
From green to Orange-and-blue;

A month or two ago,
I thought we’d just have Wright,
But soon a guy named Chris Young,
Was getting on his flight;

The Wilpons spend, The Wilpons spend,
The Wilpons spend a few;
O how fun it is to be,
On a team that has a clue.

Signing for 4 years,
With a paycheck that will last,
The salmons swimming down,
From the Bronx to Queens at last;

A week or two ago,
I thought we’d just sign Chris,
But soon came Granderson
Who blew the Yanks a kiss;

The Wilpons spend, The Wilpons spend,
The Wilpons spend again;
O how fun it is to be,
on a team that signs some men;

Signing for two years,
With a paycheck overpriced,
Comin to New York,
Yes, it will be twice;

A day or two ago,
I thought the signings were done,
Little did I know,
Bartolo was comin’ to town;

The Wilpons spend, The Wilpons spend,
The Wilpons spend once more;
O how fun it is to be,
on a team – that’s buildin’ – a core.

Christmas-Eve-1

To close, here’s the Met themed holiday song we used to close the show, our way of saying Merry Christmas and lets all look forward to some new Met magic next year. It goes to the tune of “Have a Holly Jolly Christmas.

Have A Holly Jolly Christmas

Have a holly, jolly Christmas
It’s the best time of the year
I don’t know where we will go
But Met fans all should cheer

Have a holly, jolly Christmas
When you stroll down Citi Field Street
Say hello to the friends you know
And the three new Mets you meet

Oh, no we Met fans know
There are better days ahead
Gone now after three long years
Of that horrid baseball dread

So, have a holly, jolly Christmas
And, in case you didn’t hear
Oh, by golly – at long last
We have a real chance this year

Have a holly jolly Christmas
We’re back now in the race
We don’t know where it will go
But, it’s great to make the chase

Have a holly, jolly Christmas
It’s the best time of the year
I don’t know where we will go
But Met fans all should cheer

Oh, no we Met fans know
There are better days ahead
Gone now after three long years
Of that horrid baseball dread

So, have a holly, jolly Christmas
And, in case you didn’t hear
Oh, by golly – at long last
We have a real chance this year

Oh, by golly – at long last we have a real chance this year!
