On Monday, Major League Baseball Commissioner Robert Manfred conducted a conference call with all 30 teams to discuss the timing of Opening Day. It was originally scheduled for March 26 and was already pushed back at least two weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended on Sunday night that organizers cancel or postpone in-person events that consists of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks. Manfred announced that Opening Day would be pushed back to follow that guidance.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that several GM’s he talked to are bracing for a regular season that could start as late as July.

Major League Baseball said it would keep fans updated on decisions regarding the 2020 schedule.
