Buster Olney of ESPN reports that the Mets have been recently active in the trade market. Olney specifies that the Mets are looking to move veteran position players. You would assume he’s referring to J.D. Davis, Dominic Smith, and Jeff McNeil.

Andy Martino of SNY reports that the Mets have done background work on potential trade target Luke Weaver of the Diamondbacks. The right-hander has a 4.64 ERA in 415 big league innings. He becomes a free agent following the 2023 season.

Of course the Mets would love to trade veteran Robinson Cano, but tough to imagine any team willing to take on the two-years, and $40 million the Mets still owe him.

The Mets are still hoping to add a starting pitcher, and my sources say that looks like it could come from the trade market. Two of the top free agents starters post-lockout, Carlos Rodon and Clayton Kershaw, have signed with the Giants and Dodgers on Friday respectively.

The Oakland Athletics and Cincinnati Reds are two teams known to be open to trading at least one starting pitcher.

My sources also say that the Mets have been aggressive in their pursuit of a reliever, particularly in the free agent market. I noted earlier that the Mets have interest in free agent Collin McHugh, and Olney said the Mets have interest in lefty relievers Andrew Chafin and Josh Hader.
