Left fielder Jason Bay left tonight’s game against the Cubs in the seventh inniing with a stiff right calf.

Bay was replaced by Fernando Martinez and while It was unclear when the injury occurred, he pulled because the weather in Chicago was very cold and it was a lop-sided game.

Apparently, Bay told manager Terry Collins about the problem before the game.

“We were running around, shagging fly balls in BP today, and just had some very, very, very minor tightness in the calf,” Bay said. “I told the trainers before the game, warmed it up, put a sleeve on it, and it felt good. And TC was aware of it. It was really a nonissue.”

Jason Bay has been a total bust at the plate this season, batting .227 with 8 RBI in 97 AB, after a season to forget in 2010.

Bay said he would be back in the lineup Wednesday, but he seems to be a lot more fragile than anyone ever expected since joining the Mets, so we’ll see if he really does play tomorrow.
