Back in March, Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard got Tommy John Surgery. In August, Metsmerized caught up with him to check out the status of his rehab. At that point, he was short distance tossing, which was a good sign.

Well, on Thursday, this video surfaced of him throwing off of a mound for the first time since the surgery, via his own Twitter account.

Mets new owner Steve Cohen even chimed in saying he can’t wait for Thor to be a part of the 2021 Mets.

This is a great sign that he could pitch early in 2021. The typical recovery time for pitchers can span anywhere from 12 to 18 months. Syndergaard seems to be right on pace with that. If he can reach the low end, he may be able to return as early as May.

The Mets could use his help. The addition would fortify the pitching staff, and give the Mets some much needed depth in the rotation, especially if he can return to his pre-2018 form where he was string out more than 10 batters per nine innings and limiting the walks.

As it stands right now, the Mets have Jacob deGrom, David Peterson, and Marcus Stroman locked into the rotation.
