Mets manager Luis Rojas says that Noah Syndergaard has inflammation in his right elbow and has been shutdown for six weeks. Rojas did note that the MRI showed no structural damage.

Syndergaard, trying to return from Tommy John surgery, pitched four scoreless innings in his first rehab start for the St. Lucie Mets but was lifted after only one inning in his second start. His fastball had dipped into the low-80s, which was an obvious concern for the Mets.

The right-hander will be a free agent after the 2021 season.

Rojas also said the Mets haven’t discussed yet whether they will stretch out Seth Lugo to be a starter. Lugo has made three rehab appearances, with his most recent outing being 1 1/3 innings on Tuesday.
