The New York Mets announced that right-hander Noah Syndergaard exited his second scheduled rehab start with the Low-A St. Lucie Mets on Tuesday night after just one inning of work for precautionary reasons due to right elbow soreness.

Syndergaard worked around an error and a walk, and ended a scoreless first inning of work with a strikeout. His fastball topped out at 95 MPH, but dipped all the way down into the mid-high 80’s at the innings went on.

The big right-hander also did not go down to the bullpen to get in extra work after being pulled from the game. Syndergaard was originally scheduled to throw about four-five innings on the night, and the Mets were going to evaluate if he’ll make the move to Triple-A Syracuse for his next outing after this start.

Mets acting GM Zack Scott said on Monday afternoon at Citi Field that the team was shooting for a mid-June return to the big league rotation. Hopefully this is just a minor set-back for Syndergaard on his journey back from Tommy John surgery.
