Last night, David Wright continued his rehab assignment with the St. Lucie while Brandon Nimmo started one up.
Wright, 35, had the best game of his rehab so far, going 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, and two runs scored. The third baseman is now 6-for-his-last-18 and is 6-for-32 in his 10 games so far.
The captain played his first full game since 2016 on Friday, which was a big step in his attempt to return from spinal stenosis and multiple neck injuries.
Meanwhile, Nimmo played his first game since going on the 10-day disabled list with a bruised left index finger, retroactive to August 17.
Nimmo, 25, went 1-for-3 with a single and a walk while playing seven innings in the field. The outfielder is likely very close to returning, and certainly closer to a return than Wright.
The Mets could choose to wait to activate Nimmo until September 1, when rosters expand.
