Yesterday, outfielder Brandon Nimmo‘s ‘stiff neck’ issue that was bothering him in April had come back. The neck bothered him so much that he was taken out of the lineup before Tuesday’s game. The team announced on Wednesday that he will be placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive of May 21.

The corresponding roster moves include Paul Sewald and Rajai Davis. Paul Sewald has been DFA’d while the Mets have purchased the contract of Rajai Davis.

This year, Paul Sewald posted a 3.86 ERA over seven innings of major league work. He had a FIP of 5.09 and a 1.00 WHIP. It is likely that Sewald can go through waivers and return to the Mets, however, his future is uncertain at this point.

Rajai Davis has been on the Syracuse Mets since the start of the year and his contract has been selected. Davis was acquired for outfield depth and has been selected because of the recent injuries to our starting outfield in McNeil, Nimmo, and Conforto. In Triple-A this year, Rajai Davis is batting .277/.344/.403. While those numbers are not amazing, this call-up seems to be temporary.
