Greensboro 9, Savannah 8

A three-hit effort from Brandon Nimmo and a home run from Kevin Plawecki were not enough to overcome a plethora of issues for Savannah on Tuesday night, as they fell to Greensboro 9-8.

Luis Cessa got the start for the Sand Gnats and lasted five innings, where he allowed three hits and one walk. He was on the record for four runs, but only one of them was earned, as he was victimized by an error in the second inning. It was in that second frame where he allowed a two-run home run. Jake Kuebler came on to pitch the next three innings and got through the sixth and seventh without too much trouble, but he allowed two runs in the eighth, where he was nailed for a solo home run and an RBI triple.

After Savannah stormed forward with three runs in the top of the ninth, Julian Hilario came on for the save and served up a three-run walk-off home run to Viosergy Rosa of Greensboro to end the game.

At the very least, you can grab some positives on the offensive side for Savannah as they put a five-spot on the board in the fourth inning and a three-spot in the ninth. Jeff Reynolds drilled a grand slam as the big blow in the fourth inning, while Kevin Plawecki was able to follow up a Jayce Boyd sacrifice fly with a two-run home run in the ninth. Nimmo stayed hot with a three-hit ball game and he has been absolutely scorching lately, with his season average now up to .447.
