New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo had himself a career night on Thursday in a 7-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
Nimmo went 3 for 4 with two home runs, double, three runs scored and three runs driven in. He also made a nice running catch in left field.
The 24-year-old Nimmo is now slashing .283/.416/.424 while playing all three outfield spots in the big leagues this season.
“When I hit the second one, going around first base I just said to myself, I can’t believe I hit two home runs in a Major League game,” Nimmo said after the game. “I was in shock going around the bases.”
Nimmo entered last night with one major league home run in 168 at-bats and only had four home runs in the minors this year.
Nimmo’s first home run on the night was followed by fellow outfielder Juan Lagares with a long ball of his own. “I told [hitting coach Kevin Long] that I think that’s the first time I’ve gone back-to-back as a pro,” Nimmo said.
Lagares is hot in his own right with an eight-game hitting streak in which he is 10 for 29 with six extra base hits.
