Sunday morning, it was reported by Bob Nightengale of the USA Today that Carlos Beltrán is the favorite to fill the New York Mets’ managerial vacancy following the season.

Nightengale also reported that the Mets “would love to hire,” Alex Cora. However, Cora is expected to join the Philadelphia Phillies despite rejecting their offer midseason prior to the hiring of interim Don Mattingly.

Beltrán has yet to serve as a major-league manager. He was originally hired by the Mets in that position back in 2019. However, shortly after, the Mets and Beltrán made the mutual decision to part ways in light of the Houston Astros sign-stealing scandal.

Beltrán recently was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame as part of the 2026 class. He is expected to enter the hall with a Mets’ cap. He slashed .279/.350/.486 (.837 OPS) with 435 home runs in his career. He spent seven of his 20 major-league seasons with the Mets.

Beltrán is currently employed in the Mets’ front office.
