I was very excited to read this post by Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, who writes that some changes are coming to the Mets uniforms for the 2012 season.

Adam spoke with Mets VP Dave Howard, who told him that it was too late for the Mets to incorporate the Blue “Los Mets” jerseys in time for the 2012 season, but that we will see them in 2013.

In a poll we took earlier this month on MMO, an overwhelming majority of those who voted loved the “Orange on Blue, No Drop-Shadow” designs and wanted to see them replace the ‘black” uniforms. Now we can look forward to seeing these eye-popping jerseys again in 2013.

“We did receive quite a bit of feedback…and fairly uniformly positive about the blue jersey,” Howard said. “It’s something we wanted to try…we had been hearing from fans — and observing on blogs and things like that — of people having a view that they’d like to see more of the blue and orange. We thought it would be a good opportunity to try out this particular design. And it was very well received.”

Hey, I wonder if Dave Howard read all the feedback on this post we made about those rockin’ blue uniforms! 🙂

Howard said we still may see this uniform on some special occasions…

“You have to finalize your plans by May, for the following season. So the blue jersey is not something at this point that we’re able to make part of our regular jerseys in 2012. But we do have the opportunity to wear it on certain occasions, limited times. And we will, more than likely, do that next year with a view toward perhaps introducing it as an official alternate jersey for 2013.”

As for the 2012 season, the Mets plan to go back to their roots and will look to incorporate some elements on the 1962 uniform in celebration of their 50th anniversary.

“We are planning on actually doing some modifications to our uniform palette for next year as part of our 50th anniversary celebration,” Howard said. “That’s something we’ll announce, I think, after the season. The plan is to unveil it in November.”

Those Original Mets uniforms have a wonderful classic look to them – and they also had a lot of magic in them!

I’m looking forward to the new changes. 🙂
