Hopefully, the Mets are playing it safe and will allow Mike Pelfrey to rest rather than pitch on Sunday. In a post I made this morning, I suggested that the Mets call up Nelson Figueroa and let him pitch until Mike Pelfrey is 100% pain free and has no further soreness in his forearm.

The Mets should just shelve Pelfrey for 2 weeks, and use Nelson Figueroa for a couple of starts. Livan should take Pelf’s two spot or even Maine.
The NY Post is now reporting, that Mike Pelfrey could miss his Sunday start against the Brewers at Citi Field after Nelson Figueroa, Pelfrey’s most likely replacement, was abruptly pulled after just two innings today at Triple-A Buffalo.
Figueroa, who was an emergency starter for the Mets last season when Pedro Martinez injured his hamstring early in the year, was lifted without explanation after giving up three runs on two hits (both homers) against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Pelfrey was diagnosed with tendinitis in his right forearm Wednesday. The big right-hander insisted it was no big deal and that he planned to make his next start, but the Mets appear to think otherwise.
Unless the Mets place Pelfrey on the DL, it means they would have to cut someone to make room for Figueroa. Maybe Jeremy Reed? Or Bobby Parnell?
