According to Washington Nationals’ beat reporter, Jesse Dougherty, the team has signed right-handed reliever Trevor Rosenthal to a one-year deal, with a conditional option for a second.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported yesterday that Rosenthal will receive a guaranteed $7 million, and has a mutual option for 2019 that will vest if he appears in 50 games or 30 finished for another $7 million. With bonuses, Rosenthal could make up to $28 million over two years if he stays healthy and productive.
Rosenthal, 28, missed the 2018 season due to Tommy John surgery, but had showcased his pitching recently and apparently impressed Washington, who will take a flyer on the hard-throwing righty.
The Missouri native debuted with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2012 and pitched with them until he underwent Tommy John surgery in August, 2017.
For his career, Rosenthal has logged 121 saves, and has a career ERA of 2.99 to go along with a 2.60 FIP, 130 ERA+ and 12.0 K/9.
