curtis granderson

No matter what the Mets do, they just keep winning in the playoffs, even when they’re joking around.

One example of that came in the third inning, when after Curtis Granderson stole second base, red-hot Daniel Murphy was intentionally walked so they could pitch to Yoenis Cespedes.

Murphy then signaled to Granderson to go for a double steal on the second pitch. Granderson took off and stole third base but Murphy stayed pat at first laughing.

“I said, ‘All right,’ lets go ahead and do it on the second pitch,” Granderson said to himself, before successfully stealing third. “Murphy was the one telling me to go there.”

Murphy later explained, “He dropped the oopty-oop on me right there. Because he’ll joke around, like this all the time. So I go, ‘second pitch, go’. I didn’t know he was going to take me seriously.”

“As you can tell, I stayed at first base. He took off, and I was like if I run now, I’m a dead man. If I get thrown out at second for the second out with the way Ces is swinging the bat, I’m in big trouble, so I stayed.”

The joke worked as Granderson scored on the infield hit by Cespedes, and the rest as they say, is history. Murphy’s hitting, defense and now even his gags have been destroying the Cubs so far in the NLCS. This team is so much fun to watch and cover. 🙂
