Starting pitching reinforcements may soon be on the way for the New York Mets.

According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, who has confirmed a report from Japanese news outlet Sports Hochi earlier today, Tomoyuki Sugano has arrived in the United States. Morosi adds that the Mets, San Francisco Giants and Toronto Blue Jays are the three teams in competition to sign him.

The posting system deadline to sign Sugano is this upcoming Thursday, Jan. 7.

Sugano, 31, has spent the last eight seasons with the Yomiuri Giants of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan.

During the 2020 season, Sugano went 14-2 with a 1.97 ERA, punched out 131 batters, had a 0.888 WHIP and surrendered just eight home runs in 20 games (137.1 innings pitched).
