Good morning Mets fans! The World Series begins on Tuesday night as the Washington Nationals seek their first-ever championship and the Houston Astros seek their second championship in three years.

Carlos Correa endorsed Carlos Beltran as Mets manager, per Erik Boland of Newsday.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post wrote that while Tom Bogar has gotten the least public notice of the Mets’ managerial candidates who have been asked to come in for a second interview, he is far from a long shot to land the job.

Some executives from Sterling Equities, Fred and Jeff Wilpon’s holding company, donated $5,400 to Mayor Bill de Blasio’s presidential campaign one day before he dropped out of the race, according to J. David Goodman of the New York Times.

Stephanie Apstein of Sports Illustrated reported that Astros assistant general manager Brandon Taubman had an pro-Roberto Osuna outburst in front of female reporters. Apstein connected it to MLB having a forgive-and-forget attitude toward domestic violence, since Osuna served a 75-game suspension for violating MLB’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse policy.

The Astros released a statement in response to Apstein’s story and called it “misleading and completely irresponsible.” Without naming names, they claimed that Taubman was supporting Osuna after a rough outing and that his comments were not directed at any specific reporters. Apstein’s story was later updated with an editor’s note to recognize the Astros’ response and double-down by mentioning that multiple journalists corroborated Apstein’s reporting.

The teams’ aces will face off as Max Scherzer (11-7, 2.92 ERA) will pitch for the Nationals and Gerrit Cole (20-5, 2.50 ERA) will pitch for the Astros. Game coverage will be provided by FOX.

This Day in Mets History

1979: Ed Kranepool‘s MLB career came to an end as he declared for free agency. Kranepool spent all 18 seasons of his MLB career with the Mets. He retired as leader of multiple Mets franchise categories at the time, which included most hits (1,418), games played (1,853), at-bats (5,436) and pinch-hits (90).

1986: The Mets defeated the Boston Red Sox 6-2 in Game 4 of the World Series. Gary Carter led the Mets offensively as he went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two home runs and three RBIs.

2000: The Mets fell 6-5 to the New York Yankees in Game 2 of the World Series despite a five-run rally in the top of the ninth. During the game, Roger Clemens threw the barrel of a shattered bat towards Mike Piazza as he ran to first, leading to both benches clearing onto the field.

Birthdays: Robinson Cano, Darren O’Day and Carlos Torres all turn 37.
