Good morning Mets fans! The Mets will take on the crosstown rival New York Yankees this afternoon. Zack Wheeler is slated to take on former Mets farmhand Luis Cessa at First Data Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. and the game will be aired on SNY and can be heard on 710 WOR.
Yesterday the New York Mets defeated the Houston Astros at First Data Field on a walk-off grand slam off the bat of Phillip Evans.
Jason Vargas got the start, and he allowed two runs on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts over 2.2 innings.
Seth Lugo fired 3.1 innings of one-run ball as the first man out of the bullpen. Lugo has made a strong case for a spot in the rotation.
Hansel Robles and Jamie Callahan each surrendered a run in their respective innings. Tyler Bashlor held the Astros scoreless in a strong ninth inning.
In the third with the game locked at two, Yoenis Cespedes launched a home run deep to center field to give the Mets a one-run advantage. Tomas Nido also homered in the seventh inning to tie the game.
Down 5-4 in the eighth, Luis Guillorme drove in a run with a single up the middle to tie the game up yet again in the late goings. Guillorme has certainly made a very strong bid this spring for the starting second base job.
In the ninth, Phillip Evans launched a grand slam to give the Mets a dramatic 9-5 victory.

Jacob deGrom threw a two-inning, 30 pitch simulated game yesterday. He faced Tim Tebow, Dominic Smith, and Juan Lagares. deGrom struck out Smith twice and stuck out Tebow looking.
The tentative plan is to give Jacob deGrom four full days of rest before starting him in a Grapefruit League game. ”We’re going to use common sense,” pitching coach Dave Eiland said.
Amed Rosario had an MRI on his upper leg today, Mickey Callaway said it came back “totally clean.” The shortstop is considered day-to-day and his knee is feeling better.
Michael Conforto took regular batting practice yesterday for the first time since shoulder surgery. “I don’t know about 100 percent, but I’m swinging pretty hard, pretty freely… Today was a good day,” Conforto said.
