In a little bit of a surprising news, the Mets brought back former general manager Omar Minaya as a special assistant to current general manager Sandy Alderson.

The team hired Minaya but this is the Mets so of course we have some controversy. Can’t there ever be some cohesion?

Joel Sherman of the New York Post correctly points out that Minaya’s hiring has a stench of the Wilpons all over it. Perhaps the most telling point was Minaya saying that “great organizations take care of their alumni.” This is a day after it was reported the Mets estranged themselves from Ed Kranepool, a longtime and beloved member of the team’s history.

According to Marc Carig of Newsday, Fred Wilpon made this hire. Carig adds that other members of the Mets front office are not pleased about this. He says he has heard the words “embarassing,” “stupid,” “undermining” and “insulting” from some of them.

Jim Duquette of MLB.com says Alderson is not one of those who are concerned about the hire.
