Sadly, we will have to wait just a little bit longer for the game that we love, but the right decisions were made.

On Thursday, Major League Baseball announced that – as of 4:00 PM that afternoon – all Spring Training games will be cancelled going forward as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, the start of the MLB season will officially be delayed for at least two weeks. The World Baseball Classic qualifiers will also be postponed.

According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, the Mets closed Clover Park to the public on Thursday evening. Fans with tickets to future home games will be eligible for refunds.

Donovan Mitchell Sr., the Mets’ director of player relations and community engagement, is now being tested for coronavirus. This comes after his son, Donovan Mitchell Jr., received a positive test result on Thursday morning.

Shortly after MLB’s announcement on Thursday, Pete Alonso tweeted out some sweet words for his followers in which he thanked medical officials and encouraged people to take care of each other.

Per Tim Healey of Newsday: Steven Negron, Pete Alonso‘s defense coach, greatly impressed the Mets with his efforts to improve the Polar Bear’s glove. So naturally, they gave him a job.

Ryan Cordell, an alum of Valley Christian Academy in Roseville, California, has yet to forget where he came from. According to Justin Toscano of The Record, Cordell has sent checks of $300 and $500 to his high school, while also donating equipment to kids who cannot afford their own.

According to Zach Buchanan of The Athletic, commissioner Rob Manfred will sit down with union chief Tony Clark to discuss a variety of player-related issues, including pay and what happens if a player tests positive for the coronavirus.

Minor League Baseball also released a statement today, announcing that they will delay the start of the 2020 season. Additional information about the season will be given at a later date.

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Trey Mancini had successful surgery on Thursday to remove a malignant tumor in his colon, which was initially discovered last week during a colonoscopy, reports Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports. Results and information on Mancini’s recovery time will be given next week.
