Good morning, Mets fans!

Some good injury news came Tuesday night as Seth Lugo and J.D. Davis played in a rehab game.

Seth Lugo threw just four pitches, but it got him three outs in start with the St. Lucie Mets. Lugo touched at least 93 miles per hour in the one inning of work.

Davis, who will hopefully have a much shorter rehab stint, played four innings in the same game. He started at third base and went 0-for-2.

Now let’s get into the morning briefing.

Latest Mets News

The Mets notched one of their biggest wins of the year with a 4-3 win over the Braves. Tomás Nido had a clutch ninth-inning home run — moments after the Mets had given up the lead — to lead the Mets to their second win in as many nights. You can read a recap of the game here.

The team will try to sweep the Braves on Wednesday.

Now for some more injury updates.

Kevin Pillar returned to the clubhouse a day after getting hit directly in the nose with a 95 m.p.h. fastball. He was diagnosed with “multiple nasal fractures,” and he showed off his bruises running from under one eye, to his swollen nose, all the way to under the other eye. He was placed on the injured list and Wilfredo Tovar was called up in his place.

The Mets traded for outfielder Cameron Maybin before Tuesday’s came. They returned $1 to the Cubs. Maybin, who has a paltry .391 OPS in Triple-A this year, was assigned to Triple-A Syracuse, but he’ll likely be up with the major-league team within days.

In more positive news, Jacob deGrom had a painless bullpen session Tuesday. They’ll wait to see how he feels today before deciding if he’ll come off the IL and make a start this weekend.

Taijuan Walker, who lefty Wednesday’s start early due to “left side tightness,” also felt fine Tuesday and had a clean MRI. His next start is still up in the air as they continue to play it safe with their players.

Sadly not all injury news today was positive, though: the Mets announced Pete Crow-Armstrong will undergo shoulder surgery. Though the Mets didn’t get into details, it likely puts him out for a couple months. It’s on his non-throwing (left) shoulder. PCA becomes the second top-prospect with a devastating injury in the last week following Matt Allan’s Tommy John surgery.

Latest MLB News

Mike Trout, the best player in baseball,  is out up to two months due to a calf strain, the Angels announced Tuesday. It’s okay, though, because that just means more Juan Lagares at-bats in Anaheim.

ESPN announced a six-part documentary about Derek Jeter called “The Captain,” set to release in 2022. It’s directed by Randy Wilkins.

Trevor Hildenberger, who was designated for assignment by the Mets as injuries to the offense piled up, was claimed by the San Francisco Giants.

There were also some tid bits about former Mets that came out Tuesday night: Andrés Gimenez was sent to Triple-A by Cleveland, and Daniel Murphy graduated from Jacksonville University with a bachelor’s in business administration. How about that!

Happy birthday to the ever-superstitious Turk Wendell, who turns 54 today.

Also, on this day 2010, Angel Pagan made a shoestring catch to start a triple play, aided somewhat by the umpires’ indecision.
