Nathan Eovaldi held the Astros to just two runs and five hits over 6 1/3 innings as the Rangers forced a deciding seventh game with a 9-2 victory. Mitch Garver hit a solo homer, Jonah Heim put the Rangers ahead with a two-run homer, and Adolis García blew the doors off the game with a grand slam in the ninth inning. The Rangers will send Max Scherzer to the mound, while the Astros will counter with Cristian Javier. Scherzer was tagged for five runs in four innings in Game 3 of the series, while Javier has won both of his starts this postseason, allowing just two runs over 10 2/3 innings. First pitch is at 8:03 PM.

The Padres have granted the Giants permission to interview Bob Melvin for their managerial position. He is perceived as one of the top candidates to replace Gabe Kapler. Melvin has been San Diego’s skipper for the last two seasons, leading them to the NLCS in 2022.

Should Melvin depart the Padres, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that Ryan Flaherty and Mike Shildt are two candidates to take over the helm. Flaherty is currently the team’s bench coach. Shildt won NL Manager of the Year for the Cardinals in 2019 and was a finalist for the award in 2021. He’s currently the Padres’ Senior Advisor to Player Development.

Dom Chiti has rejoined the Angels’ organization as a minor league pitching coordinator. Chiti was the team’s bench coach in 2022 before becoming the Mets’ bullpen coach in 2023.
