Good morning Mets fans! It’s finally happening! Billionaire Steven Cohen, who bought a four percent stake of the Mets back in 2012, is negotiating a deal with the team to make him the majority owner of the team, as Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported.

Now, as exciting as this news is, Fred and Jeff Wilpon will keep their titles as father and son CEO and COO for the next five years. However, if the deal is approved the spending will start immediately as Cohen will own over 50% of the team, according to Forbes.

Cohen’s net worth is estimated to be around the $13 billion range and as Mike Puma of The New York Post noted, a source says the future owner will play at a very high level and go after the expensive players as opposed to the current regime. All great news for the Mets and their fans!
