Good morning, Mets fans!

The San Diego Padres announced that manager Mike Shildt has decided to retire.

The decision comes after two seasons with the team, leading them to consecutive 90-win seasons and playoff appearances in both seasons. Shildt ended up with a record of 183-141 in his two seasons as manager of the Padres.

Shildt released a statement citing the “severe toll” the job took on him mentally, physically, and emotionally as the season came to an end.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that the following names are names to keep an eye on for the Padres manager vacancy: Cubs bench coach Ryan Flaherty, former Angels manager Phil Nevin and Padres special assistants AJ Ellis and Scott Servais, along with former Padres manager and future Hall of Famer Bruce Bochy.
