The Mets have signed pitcher John Curtiss to an MLB deal, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. Curtiss will miss the 2022 season with Tommy John surgery. The Mets have an option on his contract for the 2023 season. Nate Mendelson has more on this story.

Tim Britton of The Athletic reports that Eduardo Escobar took the entire Mets team and staff to Fogo de Chao in Washington.

Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News reports that Brandon Nimmo said that the Mets never discussed a contract extension with him in the spring, apparently adding, “I can’t offer it to myself.”

Tim Healey of Newsday Sports reported yesterday that Jacob deGrom will not be with the Mets tomorrow against the Nationals. Buck Showalter claimed that deGrom had “some imaging” to do and there are “some private family things he wanted to be a part of.” deGrom will be at the home opener on April 15.

Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Padres have traded catcher Victor Caratini to the Brewers for a couple prospects (Brett Sullivan and Korry Howell).

The MLB announced that CC Sabathia has been named the special assistant to the commissioner. Sabathia will work to enhance the sport by working in the areas of player relations, diversity, equity & inclusion, social responsibility, youth participation, and broadcasting.

Jason Mackey of Post-Gazette Sports reported yesterday that the Pirates are signing outfielder Jake Marisnick.

Congratulations to former MLB player Carlos Peña for being admitted to Columbia University’s Master of Science in Information and Knowledge Strategy program and Duke University’s Quantitative Management program. Story reported by Héctor Gómez of Z101 Digital.

Héctor Gómez of Z101 Digital also reports that the Red Sox offered a contract extension to Rafael Devers. However, Devers rejected the offer because it was lower than he was hoping for.

The Milwaukee Brewers acquired C Alex Jackson for right-handed pitcher Alexis Ramirez and infielder Hayden Cantrelle. Jackson will start the year playing for AAA Nashville.

1984: Dwight Gooden made his first career start when the Mets faced off against the Astros at the Astrodome. Gooden had a solid outing, only allowing one earned run and three hits while striking out five in five innings pitched. Jesse Orosco saved the game for the Mets and secured Gooden’s first career win.
