Good morning Mets fans! The Washington Nationals defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 8-1 on Monday night at Nationals Park. The Nats have now taken a commanding 3-0 series lead in the NLCS and appear to be World Series bound. Only the Boston Red Sox have come back from a 3-0 series deficit when they did so in the 2004 ALCS against the New York Yankees.

The Mets interviewed Mike Bell and Eduardo Perez on Monday, per Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

The Mets have now interviewed four candidates (Bell, Perez, Carlos Beltran and Luis Rojas) and have interviews set up with two candidates (Joe Girardi and Derek Shelton).

The Mets have stalled Buck Showalter’s potential candidacy for their vacant managerial position due to concerns about his past interactions with front offices in previous managerial jobs according to Mike Puma of the New York Post.

Sam Fuld, a former MLB outfielder and current Major League player information coordinator for the Philadelphia Phillies, declined an interview opportunity from the Mets per Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors. Fuld also declined interview opportunities from the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates as well.

Justin Toscano of NorthJersey.com wrote a piece on Paul Sewald who worked multiple jobs during offseasons when he was in the minors to make money and almost quit baseball in 2016 because he had not been called up to the big leagues.

The Mets are seeking an integration analyst for the New York Mets Academy in the Dominican Republic. The position will involve integrating data from new technology into the operation of the International Scouting & Player Development departments and will help optimize the integration of this data into the day-to-day operations of each department.

The New York Yankees and Houston Astros will square off Tuesday afternoon in Game 3 of the ALCS at Yankee Stadium. Luis Severino (1-1, 1.50 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Yankees and Gerrit Cole (20-5, 2.50 ERA) will do the same for the Astros. First pitch is scheduled for 4:08 p.m. EDT and television coverage will be provided by FS1.

Brian Cariota, the paramedic that was hit with a foul ball in Game 2 of the ALCS, is doing well according to his wife Cori Cariota who spoke with ABC13. Cariota suffered a brain bleed, two facial fractures and possible orbital damage, but does not blame the Astros. Cariota felt he took his eye off the ball and would love nothing more than the Astros to win the World Series again.

The MLB Players Association announced the finalists for the Comeback Player of the Year Award. The finalists in the National League are Josh Donaldson, Sonny Gray and Hyun-Jin Ryu, while the finalists in the American League are Lucas Giolito, Hunter Pence and Jorge Soler.

Andrew Friedman, Dodgers president of baseball operations, told reporters that Rick Honeycutt will transition to special assistant after 14 years as the team’s pitching coach. The Dodgers will likely promote bullpen coach Mark Prior to the pitching coach position according to Friedman.

Friedman also confirmed to reporters that Dave Roberts will return as the Dodgers’ manager and that he expects to finalize a new contract with the club himself within the next few days.

Evan Drellich of The Athletic wrote a piece asserting that MLB has lost the public’s trust in regards to constructing baseballs.

MLB will open a flagship retail store in Manhattan next summer per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. The store will be 17,000 square-feet and will be located at 50th Street and 6th Avenue.

The Nats look to secure their spot in the World Series for the first time in franchise history on Tuesday night at Nationals Park. They will send Patrick Corbin (14-7, 3.25 ERA) to the mound, while the Cardinals will respond with Dakota Hudson (16-7, 3.35 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. EDT and television coverage will be provided by TBS.

Former Nationals manager Matt Williams agreed to a three-year deal with the KIA Tigers of the Korean Baseball League to be the team’s manager according to Heyman.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald compared the Miami Marlins’ lack of success to the Miami Dolphins’ lack of success.

1969: The Mets beat the Baltimore Orioles 2-1 in 10 innings in Game 4 of the World Series at Shea Stadium. Tom Seaver provided the Mets with 10 innings of one-run ball and Ron Swoboda provided the Mets with a run-saving diving catch with two on in the ninth inning. The Mets also benefited by a controversial non-call of baserunner interference by the umpires in regards to J.C. Martin, who got in the way of Pete Richert‘s throw in the bottom of the 10th, which led to the scoring of the winning run.

1986: The Mets beat the Astros 7-6 in 16 innings in Game 6 of the NLCS at the Astrodome. The Mets won their third National League pennant in franchise history after taking part in the longest postseason game ever played at the time (four hours and 42 minutes).
