1980: A group of investors, led by Fred Wilpon and Nelson Doubleday, buy the New York Mets from the DeRoulet family. Wilpon was named president/COO, while Doubleday sat as chairman. Later on down the road, in 2002, Doubleday sold his share of the team to Wilpon.
