Good morning, Mets fans!

According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, the Mets will honor their 2000 and 2015 National League pennant-winning teams ahead of Friday’s home opener. As part of the festivities, John Franco and Al Leiter will throw ceremonial first pitches representing the 2000 squad, while Bartolo Colón and Juan Lagares will do the same for the 2015 team.

The Mets are expecting a large crowd for the home opener and posted a guide on when parking and gates open, the time of the ceremony, first pitch and an emphasis on asking fans to take mass transit to Citi Field.

Tim Healey of Newsday writes that Mets president of baseball operations and GM David Stearns revamped the Mets’ international scouting, hiring James Kang as the new head and expanding their focus on Japan and the Pacific Rim.

Mets reliever Dedniel Núñez impressed for Triple-A Syracuse in his last outing, tossing two scoreless innings with two strikeouts, one hit, and one walk, throwing 29 pitches (20 strikes) while touching 98 mph with his fastball.

On Saturday, August 2, the Brooklyn Cyclones, the Mets’ Single-A Affiliate, are hosting Seinfeld Night where every fan in attendance will receive “The Kramer” bobblehead.

The Mets have added right-hander José Marte on a minor league deal. A reliever in recent years, Marte posted a 2.33 ERA with 14 strikeouts and 10 walks over 19 1/3 innings for the Angels last season. He also recorded a 2.22 ERA across 28 1/3 innings in Triple-A.

The Atlanta Braves announced today that they have acquired catcher Jason Delay from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for cash considerations and optioned him to Double-A Columbus. The club transferred pitcher Reynaldo López to the 60-day injured list and also outrighted pitcher Jesse Chavez to Triple-A Gwinnett, who then elected free agency.

Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic posts that Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman was placed on the IL for his ankle injury, retroactive to March 31.

1988: The Mets open their season by hitting six home runs in Montreal. Darryl Strawberry (twice), Kevin Elster, Lenny Dykstra and Kevin McReynolds (twice) homer in the victory. This marks the first time in baseball history that a team hits six home runs on Opening Day.

2005: Kazuo Matsui homers in his first at-bat of the year for the second straight season. The home run comes off of former Met Paul Wilson and is one of three that Matsui would hit that year.
