Morning Briefing: Mets Sweep Doubleheader Against Atlanta

Good morning, Mets fans!

Yesterday was a terrific day for the New York Mets. The team swept two games from the Atlanta Braves which extended their division lead to 5.5 games.

In game one, David Peterson was terrific. and Francisco Lindor helped propel the Mets’ offense. In game two, Max Scherzer showed why he is still one of the best pitchers in the game. At the end of the day, it led to 8-5 and 6-2 victories over their division foe.

Per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Tylor Megill is scheduled to throw his first bullpen session next Saturday after being out with a right shoulder strain. He is on track to possibly return in late August or early September.

Tommy Hunter was put on the injured list with lower-back tightness.

According to Jacob Resnick of SNY, the Mets released veteran starting pitcher Trevor Cahill who had been pitching with Triple-A Syracuse.

The Aguilas Cibaenas announced on Saturday that they hired former Mets’ outfielder Yoenis Cespedes as one of their coaches.
