Good Morning, Mets fans!
The Mets’ biggest free agent acquisition thus far was made last night with the signing of Devin Williams, first reported by Will Sammon of The Athletic. The deal is for three years, $50 million, with a six million dollar signing bonus, and $15 million being deferred in increments of five million, per Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
Williams appears to be the first of many moves the Mets will make in pitching department. Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reported that the Mets will remain in the hunt for longtime closer Edwin Díaz.
The Mets get much needed support in the back end of their bullpen with the acquisition of Williams. Although he struggled initially in New York with the Yankees, Williams finished the year strong. For his career, Williams has 86 saves and a 2.45 ERA.
